Welcome to the Second Health Sector Development Project (HSDP-2) web site! It's created to help you become familiar with our project, which is implemented by the Government of Mongolia with the Asian Development Bank loan between 2003 and 2008.

A quick tour of our web site will give you a greater understanding of the scope of our activities. You can learn about the project goal and objectives, and receive an overview of our activities by program areas.

The main goal of HSDP-2 is to improve the health of people especially the rural poor and the vulnerable. The project has the following three components:

1. Integrated improvement of rural health services
2. Institutional capacity development
3. Project management

Component 2 of the project is implemented at the national level, while Component 1 is piloted in five provinces (Bayankhongor, Dornod, Zavkhan, Ovorkhangai and Khentii). The pilot sites have been selected on the basis of poverty level, maternal and child mortality and communicable disease incidence.

Integrated improvement of rural health services focuses on the improvement of the quality of health services through the capacity building of rural doctors, nurses and other health professionals, the provision of essential medical equipment, the renovation of hospital building, and the introduction of information and communication technology in rural health services.

The establishment and regular functioning of the Project Supervisory Groups and Task Forces in pilot provinces responsible for the coordination and monitoring of the project implementation, have had a positive impact on its performance.
